Miyazaki
Another one of those ports that you can’t get there from here. the last cruise we only stopped at one port that was that way, it was in Japan. The rest of the trip through Alaska all the berths we are within an easy walk to the town. Today the ship is at a commercial dock, that is used for either loading or unloading coal or saw dust or logs. With a telescope from the top deck you can see the town, but I fear if one was to walk to town and immediately turn around, you might miss the afternoon sailing. I would have been happy to have today as a Sea Day. But, Nooo, the sea day cuts off a full day from a couple of cities that I really wanted to explore.
After dinner I went up to deck 13 for a final post meal cigarette. I got on an elevator (Hey, Debbie I was already ailing). Two women from ?? Got on with me and pressed 10 and I 13. One looked at me and said “Rooms on 13?”. No, and I pulled out my pack of cigarettes.
The wind was fierce and I was dressed in my inside clothes, I didn’t last long.
Back in the room it was 730 or 8 and I jumped into my nightgown, a black well worn t-shirt. I lay on the bed and the last time Siri told me the time was 850.
In really wasn’t feeling good. A minor cough, and a firehose dripping from the middle of my face. Sleep wasn’t easy to come by, but did happen fitfully. Ships make weird noises and more than once I have been awakened by my the bed bouncing, causing me to think I had company. In dreamland the oddest noise came. Not from the normal engine sounds or the elephants above me. This came from the middle and low of the ship. A long low grinding. I think we ran aground. A few minutes later it was done, only to come back a bit later. Siri told me it was 115.
In the morning on deck 13 the Captain was smoking and I asked him if we bumped last night. He confirmed my suspicions. “In little bit” was his reply
I went back to slumber until morning began to break and just watched it through my glass wall. Finally I got up and headed for deck 13. A very fresh breeze from the north and even with my fleece it was one and done.
A quick glance in Lonely Planet told me there were some sights I town, but none inspired me to be a tourist. Today I was a tourist in room 11128. Curtains open, door open, bra and panties, I snuggled back into my manger. Next thing it’s 1pm and there is another odd noise outside my balcony. I saw something like a giant hose reel approaching from the bow. Then I see a man in the next balcony washing the glass. I popped up and threw the curtains closed and hid under the covers until he moved on.
That’s been the day so far, and I don’t expect it to get more interesting until tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow Osaka. I’ll take a pill and get the best night’s sleep I can, because Osaka is a ‘Must”
